Governor ‘Ron’ Broida’s initiative for 2016-17 is to assist victims of domestic violence, which includes women, men, and children of all ages, by supporting local family shelters and creating a public awareness of domestic violence. District 6450 clubs are requested to participate by contacting one of the local agencies that provide services to domestic violence victims. Please contact only those agencies that serve people within the boundaries of District 6450; a listing of agencies has been compiled in the Information Packet. The agency addresses are NOT to be publicized!
Your Club, or other Clubs acting together, is requested to contact the agency of your choice. Establish a relationship with the agency; understand that confidentiality, concern and protection of their clients is of the upmost importance. Kindly explain the initiative, which is to support domestic violence victims through assistance and to help prevent abuse; inquire how your Club can assist, i.e., toiletries, linens, miscellaneous items, or monetary donations to help victims restart with rent and utilities. The Rotary Club of Chicago-O’Hare regarding amenity kits that are available for the asking; sample kits and information were recently distributed to Rotarians at the 2016 District Conference. Guidelines are outlined for requesting the amenity kits. Your Rotary Club needs to follow the procedures set forth on the information sheet and please deal directly with Pat & Jack Ranttila with the Rotary Club of Chicago-O’Hare.
Governor Ron will make an announcement at the 2017 District Conference of the wonderful assistance that was accomplished by R.I. District 6450 during his term. Therefore, please keep accurate records of what your Club did to support this Initiative. You can contact JoAnne Ragona (email: firstname.lastname@example.org) with your information; if your Club does not respond, she will be following up with Club Presidents in order to compile a complete report for Governor Ron. This Domestic Violence Initiative information will be important to all within the boundaries of District 6450.
